CARTS awarded a $773,000 grant for crash video analysis

The Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation Safety (CARTS) has been awarded a grant from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in the amount of $773,504 to study the causes of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) crashes to improve safety on Louisiana's roadways.

Highway Safety Research Group Changes Name

The Highway Safety Research Group (HSRG) will now be known as the Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation Safety (CARTS). The request was approved by the LSU board of supervisors April 26, 2019. The new website is http://carts.lsu.edu and the new email address is carts@lsu.edu.

New Crash Report Manual Posted!

In response to user comments, suggestions and guidance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Manual for Use of the State of Louisiana Uniform Motor Vehicle Traffic Crash Report has been revised. After an extensive review, edits were made by a revision task force led by the Louisiana Traffic Records Coordinating Committee.

Most Effective Cartography Map

During the GIS-T Symposium, our map, "Louisiana Recorded and Predicted Crash Rate by Zip Code", was awarded first place for Most Effective Cartography Map. This map, created by Bethany Campbell, shows statistically significant clusters of zip codes where drivers had a high percentage of crashes involving alcohol.

NHTSA Noteworthy Practice
