Overview

The Center for Analytics & Research in Transportation Safety (CARTS) within the E. J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University collects, improves, maintains, integrates, analyzes, and disseminates traffic-related data captured from law enforcement and other agencies throughout the State of Louisiana. To support the collection of crash data, CARTS oversees the eCRASH program, which captures electronic crash reporting information in a standardized and timely manner. CARTS also serves as the custodian of the State’s traffic records data warehouse repository.

CARTS activities focus on stakeholder needs for accessible traffic safety data to support informed decision making for traffic safety in Louisiana. Using data compiled throughout the year, CARTS authors the Crash Data Reporting website, which includes traffic data highlights, trends, and state/parish level crash information. CARTS also produces numerous stakeholder tools, publications, maps, and visualizations.

CARTS is divided into five sections: Business Intelligence/Data Analytics, Data Quality, Geographic Information Systems, Information Technology, and System Support. These sections strive to make data more timely, complete, accurate, uniform, accessible, visually appealing, and easier to interpret for our stakeholders.
