Graham Participates in FARS Training

Savannah, GA – Data Quality Manager and FARS Analyst, Sara Graham, recently returned from completing a mandatory training for the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, or FARS.

FARS is a nationwide system set up to gather data on fatal injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes. Each US state and territory, as well as the District of Columbia, reports crash fatalities using this system; thus designated FARS analysts from each state along with representatives and contractors from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are obligated to attend.

At this year''s system-wide training in Savannah, Graham attended sessions where FARS administrators introduced a new data entry system, provided guidelines and training on new and revised coding elements, and discussed quality control issues involving accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness.

About CARTS

The Center for Analytics & Research in Transportation Safety (CARTS) is responsible for collecting, maintaining, integrating, analyzing and distributing crash-related data captured from law enforcement and other agencies throughout the State of Louisiana. CARTS utilizes this data to develop business intelligence (BI) and GIS tools, perform research studies and produce an annual factbook. These tools and publications are used by decision-makers to identify potential problem areas, create countermeasures, set policies, and establish programs to improve the safety of our roadways in Louisiana. CARTS is a center within the E. J. Ourso College of Business at LSU.
