ATSIP Hosted in New Orleans

August 1, 2017

Baton Rouge - While HSRG staff members actively participate in the Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals (ATSIP) Traffic Records Forum each year, 2017 marked a particularly special event because HSRG helped host the event in New Orleans. Director Cory Hutchinson, served as the program chair, and notably planned the most-attended Forum to date. A number of HSRG staff members presented their work on topics including data mining, mapping drunk driving, factors impacting seatbelt usage, troubleshooting issues with data integration within Traffic Records Committees, understanding drugged driving, data visualization and the automation of data quality. HSRG staff participated in a host of discussions that will ultimately benefit the way that the HSRG collects, analyzes, and publishes its data, and we are looking forward to applying takeaways from those discussions to our work in the near future.

About the Highway Safety Research Group

The Highway Safety Research Group is a division of the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship and Information Systems within the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business. HSRG collects, maintains, analyzes and distributes crash data to support public policy decisions in Louisiana. Through a grant from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the HSRG developed a software program, LACRASH, which has revolutionized the way traffic accidents are reported.
